Frequently asked questions

The Maltese general election is scheduled for Saturday 30 May 2026. Both major parties launched their electoral manifestos in May 2026.

No. Electoral manifestos are statements of intent. Schemes typically require a Legal Notice or Budget measure before they apply, and figures often change between manifesto and law. Always confirm the current rule with a notary or tax adviser before relying on a pledge for a property decision.

PL proposes an interest-free state loan of up to 25% of the property value, retained as collateral until repaid. PN proposes an interest-free deposit loan of up to 10% (max €45,000) plus a monthly cash refund of 50% of mortgage interest paid for the first 10 years. On inheritance, PN proposes removing stamp duty on inherited property with no value cap; PL proposes raising parent-to-child donation caps to €1m and removing, for a surviving spouse, Causa Mortis duty on the half of the property other than the matrimonial home.

No. Pedament is a property-data platform with no political affiliation. This page summarises publicly reported promises from both major parties for the convenience of buyers, sellers and tenants.

Yes — through to election day on 30 May 2026, and again after polling closes to show which promises become law.

This page is a non-partisan summary of property-related promises published on each party’s official manifesto and proposals page during the 2026 election campaign.
